SPEECH AND DEBATE

Dear Colleague:

You are cordially invited to the DAVID KANELLIS INVITATIONAL OVERNIGHTER to be held January 14-15 at Iowa City West High School.  The tournament offers five divisions of debate and six events in speech including: Varsity and Novice Policy Debate, as well as Varsity and Novice Lincoln-Douglas Debate, Legislative Debate, EXTEMP, HI, DI, DUO, OI, OO and Public Forum. 

POLICY DEBATERS (Friday and Saturday) will debate the 2010-2011 high school resolution.

LINCOLN-DOUGLAS DEBATERS (Friday and Saturday) will debate the January/February resolution

 LEGISLATIVE DEBATERS (Separate Friday and Friday/Saturday Contests):  Please submit legislation no later than January 6th.  We will provide a packet of legislation one week in advance to each team who enters the legislative debate category by the entry deadline.  There will be two kinds of Legislative houses: one session for Friday only (for those coming to compete in speech on Saturday) and houses for those wishing to compete in Legislative Debate on both Friday and Saturday.

INDIVIDUAL EVENTS (Saturday Only):  We will be offering the following events:  Original Oratory, Mixed Extemp, Oral Interpretation in Prose/Poetry, Humorous Interpretation, Dramatic Interpretation, and Duo Interpretation. We will have 4 prelim rounds and a final!

PUBLIC FORUM (Friday and Saturday): We will use the January Resolution.  We will break to the appropriate level, given the number of teams.  If necessary, elimination competition for Public Forum will continue following the awards assembly at 6pm.

Please register early to allow us to plan well.  We are proud to run our tournament with skilled judging and an excellent tab room staff.  We will endeavor to keep to our schedule.  Registration will take place in the Little Theatre.  We ask that you keep all your students in the cafeteria until we empty out the school.
